These minerals are difficult to demonstrate because they are too small to be seen in typical basalt, but some basaltic rocks are porphyritic lots of porphyritic rocks can be seen here: Basalt porphyrite from the Isle of Mull, Scotland with many plagioclase phenocrysts. The rock is 8 cm in length. Porphyritic basaltic rock from Tenerife. Phenocrysts are plagioclase white and augite black. Width of sample 14 cm. Magnetite crystals are always microscopic in basalt, but sometimes they form black stripes in light-colored sand. Here are heavy minerals mostly magnetite as a residue of weathering of basaltic rocks. White Park Bay, Northern Ireland. Basaltic rock most likely basanite from Caldera de Taburiente, La Palma.

Mankind was in the Third Ageof Man, some 20, years since the revolt. The Empire encompassed over 50, worlds. Theform of government was basically feudal, having an Emperor at its head, a mostly ceremoniallegislative body Reischstagen , and was based more on political alliances between families. Disturbing reports had filtered in all day. There were inferences that Family Chesterfield, a family with whomthere had been a long on-going vendetta, was behind such a plot.
All briar Kaywoodie, Yello-Bole, and Medico pipes, as well as private label pipes, are produced at the manufacturing facility in Tampa, Florida today. All Brylon pipes are manufactured in Peekskill, NY. Metal Pipes. The Yello Bole Aristocrat Airograte: An Aluminum and wood pipe with a twist.
Earth pigments[ edit ] Ochre is a family of earth pigments, which includes yellow ochre, red ochre, purple ochre, sienna, and umber. The major ingredient of all the ochres is iron III oxide-hydroxide , known as limonite , which gives them a yellow colour. Yellow ochre Goldochre – pigment 2O, is a hydrated iron hydroxide limonite also called gold ochre Red ochre, Fe 2O 3, takes its reddish colour from the mineral hematite , which is an anhydrous iron oxide. Purple ochre, is identical to red ochre chemically but of a different hue caused by different light diffraction properties associated with a greater average particle size.
Brown ochre, also FeO OH , goethite , is a partly hydrated iron oxide. Sienna contains both limonite and a small amount of manganese oxide less than five percent , which makes it darker than ochre. Umber pigments contain a larger proportion of manganese five to twenty percent which make them a dark brown. Ochres are non-toxic , and can be used to make an oil paint that dries quickly and covers surfaces thoroughly. Modern ochre pigments often are made using synthetic iron oxide.
Pigments which use natural ochre pigments indicate it with the name PY Pigment yellow 43 on the label, following the Colour Index International system. Limonite, a mineraloid containing iron hydroxide, is the main ingredient of all the ochre pigments. Hematite is a more reddish variety of iron oxide, and is the main ingredient of red ochre. When limonite is roasted, it turns partially to the more reddish hematite and becomes red ochre or burnt sienna.
Goethite, named for the German poet Goethe , is the main ingredient of brown ochre.

All right so here is what I have for the Yello Bole master list so far as per usual any help with dates, pics etc is always welcome I have a few of these models so I will be getting pictures of them up shortly. Not sure if this is actually a separate model but it seems worth having on the list.
Smoking Metals pretty much are all designed under the same theory, namely, that a briar or sometimes Meerschaum bowl is attached to a metal, usually aluminum stem which is in turn fitted with a stem. Sure, but there are differences. Just the cut away view of a Kirsten shows how they are designed with these parts. Kirsten Then there is the simple Falcons, Alcos, and Brentfords, with just a removable bowl that screws on or off. Stems on the standards are not removable. They are a snap.
Others, most not made anymore, are similar to the Falcon, except they have minor differences in the parts, or the overall design that got around the Falcon patent. With the Kirstens, the rubber O-rings are probably the biggest issue possible. Over time, with maintenance, sitting in a drawer they tend to dry out, crack or break.

I think they’re decent pipes and it’s been fun learning bout them and how to kind of datee them. I’ve learned that they were Kaywoodie’s “seconds” line and came into being in The first Yello Bole I picked up has a yellow circle on the stem, not the shank. But what really amazed me is that it is also stamped “honey cured briar”. From what I’ve read, Yello Bole pipes were only stamped with “honey cured briar” from to !
Which means, I have one very old pipe.
“OK so there isn’t a lot of dating information for Yello-Bole pipes but here is what I have learned so far. – If it has the KBB stamped in the clover leaf it was made or earlier as they stopped the stamping after being acquired by S.M. Frank.

Yello Bole also used a 4 digit code stamped on the pipe in the 30s. If the pipe had the Yello Bole circle stamped on the shank it was made in the 30s this stopped after If the pipe was stamped BRUYERE rather than briar it was made in the 30s.
Download the MP3 podcast of this episode. Handling a tobacco pipe properly is like mastering a fine Japanese tea ceremony, but with fewer kimonos and eyeliner. The idea is to find a pipe — usually a carefully hand carved selection of aged briar with a plastic-like stem often made of vulcanite — and find one that speaks to you personally. If you need a pipe to smoke weed in get thyself to a proper head shop and buy one of those glass dildo things — they work better and look cooler under a black-light.
For now, just get something made of actual briar and not carved by a local artist who makes wall clocks out of walnut and wanted to try something artsy at his nudist camp. Set your budget around fifty bucks or so, and if something looks like it was colored by being dipped in a bucket of stain — skip it. Do you regularly ride a fixed gear bicycle to your internship? Do you drink Pabst Blue Ribbon while not living on a farm?
Do you want a pipe because cigarettes are just, like, too mainstream? Have you purposefully not eaten today? Has it been less than six months since you watched Donnie Darko? When starting out you might be tempted to sniff each jar and grab a few ounces of the fruitiest smelling one you can find — but I suggest you avoid those tobaccos.

Yello-Bole Thorn. This isn’t quite as old as the rest of my collection, but it’s easily one of the coolest smoking YB’s I own. I know 6 pipes isn’t too terribly much for a collection, but one day I might have a YB collection that can hold its own against Ed’s Dr. Grabow collection.
